‘Tricky’ course awaits AAC runners Saturday

To accompany this sports story, I built an interactive that lets the readers watch a sped-up track race for Temple University athletes.

Inspired by the New York Times’ graphics that showed swimming races, the sports editor at the time and I decided we wanted to make something similar for this story. I had one day to make it.

To make this interactive, I collected the most recent race times for each athlete who could race in the upcoming championships. Then, I converted those times into a shortened but proportionate time, since readers don’t want to watch a whole 30-minute race.

Then, I had to research the right JavaScript library and make it actually happen. I also roughly coded the interactive to respond to different screen sizes.
